• VW didn't start making this car until 1965 and it was present in Mendham. Ted and Steve both learned to drive a stick in this car. They would push it out of the garage and as far up the driveway they could without starting it while Mom and Dad were watching MASH or Masterpiece Theater. Then they would start it and dive laps from end to end on Lowery Lane.

• Andy also learned to drive (without Mom and Dan knowing) with this car and one day drove it across the Kapprillian's (sp?) lawn. He had been driving along without trouble when he looked down and saw a tick on his arm. Taking his eyes off the road he tried to remove it and drove right through the damp grass of their lawn. If I remember correctly, he slammed on the brakes and left torn grass tracks. I think Mr. Kapprillian made him replace the divot and spread some new grass seed.
