As a postscript to the snowy saga, I delivered the engine assembly and car to the foreign car place that was on the sharp curve of 24 just getting into Morristown. Two days after that a milk tank truck lost control on that curve heading out of Morristown and rolled over onto the parking lot of the car repair place, crushing several cars (but not the 1600). That delayed the repair even longer... when I finally got the car back I left to drive back up to Providence, and had my experience changing a flat tire for an unfriendly black family on the downslope of the GW bridge. They drove off...the BMW would not start. I pushed/rolled it down and slid off the exit ramp into whatever hellish spot that is (185th street?) and eventually ran out into the street and flagged down a tow truck. I convinced the driver to drive back around on the bridge (to approach my car from the NJ side). I said that all I needed was a jump... he had a push bumper on the truck so he agreed. I popped the clutch (in bridge traffic), the car started, and at that point I could have driven away, but instead pulled over to pay him (good New Jersey boy). I opened my wallet and told the tow truck driver that I had $20 (enough to get back to Rhode Island).... he looked pissed, literally reached into my wallet, took all my money and drove away without a word. I drove back to Mendham. It was very difficult to explain it all to Beth....
